About Us

Crane's is no ordinary deli. Steve Crane and Dave Ramirez opened their doors at 175 Maplewood Avenue June 29 2005 offering more than 60 imported international cheeses and things have been buzzing ever since. A sandwich board features a new twist on old favorites, partnered with fresh breads from the Sullivan St. Bakery. Daily specials include Crane's Ploughman's Lunch* and an appetizing assortment of homemade spreads, marinated olives and desserts like peppermint fudge and bread pudding.

After leaving a career in healthcare, Steve decided to fulfill a dream and re-open the local cheese shop his wife Janet fondly remembered as a girl growing up in town. Together they've made Maplewood their home since 1995. Dave's Manhattan credits include a stint as sous-chef at Chanterelle and instructor at the Institute of Culinary Education. Besides running Crane's kitchen, Dave is also a marathon runner including a run in the NYC marathon. His wife, Susan, teaches at Tuscan school. They are all Tuscan school parents and active contributors to the community. They see their new business as a labor of love.
